Pandemic Chalkboard

During the pandemic Miranda painted a great deal, trying to process the intensity of times through her imagery.  Her little store in Santa Fe was closed for 2 ½ years.  She and her husband went home and made stuff and worked on their house.  They would draw on their big chalkboard every evening, around the time that the New Yorkers were going to their balconies and roof-tops to make noise in honor of the dead, and the caretakers and essential workers who held the fabric of our society together.  Out of this came “pandemic chalkboard” which was a book and an installation at Axel Contemporary, as well as portraits that she painted.

In 2019 Miranda painted an 8 foot long by 6 foot high wall in her studio with chalkboard paint. At the time, she had no plans for it, but with the Covid-19 lockdown, the chalkboard became a place of solace.

Below are the 12 chalkboard drawings that she and her husband Bruce created in that period of isolation.
