The Farm Project
Miranda spent a summer traveling all over Northern New Mexico to photograph farmers on their land. They were beautiful enthusiastic people with strong ties to the earth and their community. It was one of the most rewarding projects she has ever created. She ventured out onto country roads that she didn't know existed, meeting people who freely gave of their time and stories. From it came this series of egg tempera paintings.
She exhibited this series in Santa Fe, at Selby Fleetwood gallery. There was a standard Friday night opening, but then on the next day, after the farmers were finished with their morning at the Santa Fe Farmers Market, she threw them a party at the gallery. She had purchased food from all her subjects and created a buffet of their food. She also made pins from the paintings that the farmers wore at the party, so that people could connect the paintings with their farmers. Under each painting was a photograph of the farmers in their market booths, with a little story about their farms.
